Cameras using CMOS technology usually have poor light sensitivity and produces poor quality images. The larger the chip the better images it may produce but you should expect that it is more expensive. The picture resolution of the security camera image can be measured by the number of TV lines. The larger the number of lines, the better resolution and picture quality you can expect. If you will use the security camera in places with poor light conditions, then you should choose the B/W chip cameras that produce better light sensitivity and greater resolution. Security camera systems are categorized into different types.

Companies MentionedThere’s a lot to absorb when setting up a smart home. That's because the concept of a "smart home" is relatively new, and the term itself is fairly nebulous. Two readers wanted to know the best way to get started. Image credit: Philips "Which systems are good for learning how to install full home smart systems?" AdicommunicationsukAs we explain in our Smart Home Guide, a smart home can be as simple as a set of lights that you can control from your phone. Or it could be a whole home setup in which your lights, thermostat, locks, security cameras, smoke detectors, garage door openers and more are all interconnected and can react in different ways when one of them is triggered. For example, you can have all your lights turn on when your smoke detector starts blaring, or you can have all the lights turn off, the locks lock and your security camera turn on with a single command. MORE: Our Favorite Smart Home Gadgets and SystemsIf you're just getting started, I would recommend getting the Philips Hue White Starter Kit $69 and the Amazon Echo Dot $49. Philips' lights provide one of the least expensive ways to get started and should give you a taste of what you can do. From there, you can connect the lights with the Echo Dot, so you can turn them on or off using Alexa. Image credit: TP LinkIf you want to go further afield, I suggest investing in a smart plug or two; these simply plug into an outlet and connect to your home's Wi Fi network. From there, just plug a lamp, a coffee maker or anything else into the smart plug, and you'll be able to integrate that device into your smart home.

It should be noted that Nest Protect was the only smoke detector that passed all of our detection tests. Half the devices could not detect our test smoke from 10 feet away and only Nest Protect sensed danger from the 15 foot mark. All smoke alarms feature a loud blaring tone to alert you to potential dangers in your home. Nest Protect goes a step further by adding voice alerts that calmly tell you what kind of danger is present, where it is and how to proceed. If you have multiple Nest Protect smoke alarms installed and networked in your home, alerts will sound on each of them, warning everyone in your home about the danger. You can hush the alarm with the app if there's a false alarm. When Nest Protect detects threats in your home, it sends a notification directly to your smartphone. These real time notifications allow you to handle the situation from wherever you are – you won’t always be home when disaster strikes – and contact local emergency services if necessary. Our testers determined that Nest Protect was by far the easiest to set up, mount and connect because of its intuitive design and clear instructions. It took just a few minutes from opening the package to having a fully functional smoke detector ready to go. After you connect this Wi Fi smoke alarm to the internet, you can control, monitor and test the device remotely though a useful mobile app.
